The story behind a Melbourneweb design studiobuilt over time

Reach Digital was founded in 2012, but its roots as a Melbourne web design studio started almost a decade earlier. Before website templates became common. Before every business had a CMS. Before mobile changed how people used the web.

That history matters because good websites are not built from trends alone. They are built from judgement. What to say. What to leave out. How to structure trust. How to help people understand, compare, decide and enquire.

Reach Digital brings more than twenty years of web practice into every project, with the same first principles still guiding the work today.

Timeline

  1. The foundation started at Monash University, combining design, interaction, communication and digital production.

The business mindset was there from the beginning. Blank Motion began with two graduates choosing to back themselves, moving directly from university into independent practice and learning quickly what real businesses needed from the web.

That added heart to the work early. It was not just theory. It was briefs, clients, budgets, deadlines, problem-solving and the pressure of making digital work useful in the real world.

It was never just about making things look good on screen. It was about understanding how people move through information, how digital systems are structured, and how creative decisions affect usability.

That mix of design thinking, technical understanding, business awareness and practical pressure became the base for everything that followed.

    • Digital design
    • Interaction
    • Multimedia
    • Content structure
    • User experience
    • Business thinking
  2. Blank Motion Studios began in 2003, building custom websites and content systems for Melbourne businesses.

This was before off-the-shelf website platforms became the default. Many projects needed to be planned, designed and coded from the ground up, including custom CMS systems, PHP and MySQL builds, Flash interfaces, database-driven websites and interactive digital experiences.

Access.Point was born during this period. It became the nucleus for a more structured way of building content-managed websites and bespoke digital systems, long before simple website builders became common.

That systems thinking carried forward into larger brand and agency projects. The aim was not just to build pages, but to create digital foundations that could manage content, support growth and make the website easier to operate.

The work was technical, but the thinking was practical. Each project still came back to the same questions Reach asks now.

    • What does the business need?
    • What is unclear for the customer?
    • What should the website make easier?

The tools have changed. The logic has not.

    • Custom CMS
    • Access.Point
    • PHP and MySQL
    • Database-driven websites
    • Interactive web
    • Business websites
  3. The work expanded into larger digital production, national brand projects and more complex stakeholder environments.

Projects included digital work connected to Sensis, Autobarn, Pedders Suspension, K-Swiss, Royal Elastics and other national and global brand environments.

This period sharpened the production discipline behind Reach Digital: managing complexity, presenting work clearly, keeping projects moving, and making digital decisions that could stand up in more demanding brand and agency environments.

The Pedders Suspension work received a Gold Award at the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association. The award was valuable, but the larger lesson was broader than one campaign.

Digital platforms change quickly. Flash gave way to open standards. Fixed-width layouts gave way to responsive design. Desktop-first thinking gave way to mobile-first behaviour.

Surviving those shifts taught an important principle: tools matter, but judgement matters more.

    • National and global brand work
    • Creative direction
    • Digital production
    • Stakeholder management
    • Responsive design
    • Platform change
  4. Through Blank Motion, founder Mauricio Iraheta contracted with JWT Melbourne and other major Melbourne advertising agencies on larger agency and government-facing digital projects.

The work included projects connected to Federal Government, VicRoads, Ford, Kraft and Maxxia.

This added another layer of discipline: clearer briefs, tighter production standards, more complex approvals, and the ability to translate between strategy, creative, technical teams and clients.

That experience still informs how Reach Digital works now.

    • Calm process.
    • Clear communication.
    • Practical decisions.
    • No unnecessary noise.
    • Digital production at scale
    • Government projects
    • Large brand environments
    • Project leadership
    • Client communication
  5. Reach Digital was founded in 2012 as a deliberate return to independent studio practice.

It was a focused way to use years of digital experience where it could make the most direct difference: with businesses that need clear communication, strong trust signals and a better path to enquiry.

Today, Reach Digital works with service-based businesses where trust, clarity and enquiries matter. That includes optometry, health, allied health, orthodontics, consulting, professional services and local service businesses.

The focus is not just building a better-looking website. It is planning a website around how real customers understand the offer, build confidence, compare options and take the next step.

Reach Digital's long history in optometry, health and service-based websites has shaped a practical methodology for how content, trust signals, booking pathways and local search visibility work together.

    • Service-based businesses
    • Optometry and health
    • Professional services
    • Website strategy
    • UX and content structure
    • Trust and enquiries
  6. The tools are sharper now.

Modern development frameworks, stronger design systems, AI-assisted workflows and more structured content processes help Reach Digital move faster and work with more precision.

But the role of the studio has not changed.

AI can support research, structure, production and delivery. It does not replace strategy, experience, taste or judgement.

KareSync is a good example of that continuity. A healthcare support product shaped around a clear practical problem: helping clinics give patients home-care guidance that is easier to understand, remember and follow between appointments.

That line runs all the way back to the early work.

    • A problem.
    • An answer.
    • A useful digital system.

Twenty years of practice, brought into a sharper way of building websites now.

    • Purpose-built websites
    • Digital product thinking
    • Healthcare technology
    • UX and UI
    • AI-assisted workflows
    • Senior judgement
